FORT MILL, S.C. -- Following a four-game sweep of Gwinnett, the Pawtucket Red Sox continued their trek through the International League South with a fifth straight win on Friday, beating the Charlotte Knights, 3-1, in front of 4,889 at Knights Stadium.

Right-hander Graham Godfrey authored six shutout innings, allowing only two hits and striking out five to help extend two strings of success. Collectively, the PawSox have equaled their longest winning streak of 2013. Individually, Godfrey (W, 2-2) has logged 11.0 scoreless innings his last two outings.

He exited with a 3-0 lead after Pawtucket made the most of its early opportunities off Charlotte starter Simon Castro, who fanned eight in eight innings. Castro (L, 0-5) retired the side in order three times in the first six frames. In each of the other three innings, he allowed a run.

For the fourth time in five games, the PawSox took a first-inning lead, thanks to an RBI from Mark Hamilton. After Ryan Lavarnway's two-out single, Hamilton doubled to drive in his 25th run.

Hamilton again figured prominently in the scoring in the fourth, when he walked and scored on a double by Bryce Brentz.

Brentz picked up another RBI, his 23rd, in the top of the sixth. Joe Iglesias walked, advanced to third on a double by Lavarnway and came home on Brent'z groundout.

Meanwhile, Godfrey retired 12 straight at one point, before the Knights loaded the bases with two outs in their half of the sixth. Left fielder Ryan Dent ended the threat with an outstanding running catch in foul territory to retire ex-PawSox Lars Anderson.

Charlotte got on the board opposite Pedro Beato in the seventh, avoiding its sixth shutout loss when a passed ball enabled Seth Loman, who walked, to score. Beato recovered to retire the next four batters, before former Knight Anthony Carter (S, 4) completed a 1-2-3 ninth.
