Hartford Yard Goats News Release
HARTFORD- Nelson Molina's two-run double and solid pitching by Ryan Castellani and the bullpen lifted the Hartford Yard Goats to a 2-1 victory over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies Thursday night, before a sellout crowd of 6,850 at Dunkin' Donuts Park. Matt Pierpont, who earlier in the day was named to the Eastern League's season-ending All-Star team, pitched around a lead-off single in the ninth to nail down his league-leading 29th save and preserve the win for Castellani, who improved to 7-8. He also tied the franchise single-season saves record held by Berlin's Matt Carasetti. It was the Yard Goats(60-66) fourth straight win, the first time the club has had a four-game win streak in two months.
With their 40th sellout crowd of the season and 21st capacity crowd, Hartford has now drawn 360,992 fans with seven home dates left on the schedule.
For the second straight game, Binghamton catcher Patrick Mazeika broke a scoreless tie with a home run into the upper deck in right, leading off the fourth inning. After Rumble Ponies starter Franklyn Kilome struck out the first two batters in the fourth, the Yard Goats came back on singles by Brian Mundell and Mylz Jones and a two-run double by Nelson Molina off the base of the wall in right.
Castellani, whose last win came on July 31 against the same Mets' affiliate, pitched five innings, allowing one run on four hits. He walked three and struck out three. Hartford relievers Sean Nolin, Scott Griggs and Pierpont then allowed just two runners to reach base over the last four innings.
Kilome, acquired from the Phillies organization for Mets' infielder Asdrubal Cabrera, pitched five innings and allowed two runs on four hits to suffer the loss. He walked two and struck out six.
Molina led Hartford with two hits, while Mazeika had a home run and single for Binghamton.
The Yard Goats continue their home stand with a three-game series against Trenton, Friday night at 7:05. RH Jesus Tinoco will start for Hartford against RH Brian Keller for the Yankees affiliate.
The game will be televised on Vantage Sportsnet, broadcast on AM 1410 WPOP and streamed on newsradio1410.iheart.com and MiLB.com.
