Hartford Yard Goats News Release
HARTFORD - Trey Amburgey homered, had three hits and four RBI, and Trenton survived a ninth inning scare to trim Hartford, 7-6, Saturday night, before 6,850 at Dunkin' Donuts Park. Trenton (71-60) clinched a tie for a playoff spot with the victory, while the Yard Goats were eliminated from post season contention.
Hartford made it close, scoring four runs in the ninth, sparked by a two-run home run by Roberto Ramos down the right-field line off of reliever Matt Frawley, who had just entered the game. Brian Mundell then reached second base on a single and error. After an intentional walk to Sam Hilliard, Frawley enticed Drew Weeks to ground into a force out at third to secure his first save.
The game was played before Hartford's 42nd sellout crowd of the season, a record for sellouts in the park's two-year history. It was also the 15th straight sellout, as the Yard Goats' season attendance jumped to 374,692.
Amburgey's homer off of starting pitcher Rico Garcia snapped a 2-2 tie in the third inning. Hartford (60-68) had tied the game off of eventual winning pitcher Ryan Bollinger in the second inning on an RBI-double by Mylz Jones and run-scoring single by Ryan Metzler. Bollinger then retired the next 11 hitters, before turning the game over to the bullpen.
Bollinger pitched five innings, allowing two runs on four hits. He walked one and struck out six, improving to 8-5. Garcia pitched five innings, permitting four runs - two earned - on five hits. He walked four and struck out four, as his record dropped to 6-2.
In addition to his home run, Amburgey had a two-run double, single and four RBI. Bruce Caldwell added a two-run double and a single to pace Trenton. Ramos' had a homer, single and two RBI to lead Hartford's 11-hit attack. Metzler had two hits and two RBI, while Jones, Mundell and Brandon Bednar each had two hits for Hartford.
The Yard Goats and Trenton wrap up their three-game series on Sunday afternoon at 1:05.
The game will be televised on Vantage Sportsnet, broadcast on AM 1410 WPOP and streamed on newsradio1410.iheart.com and MiLB.com.
