Goats Found to Have Supernatural Powers and Help JackHammers to Playoffs
September 7, 2010 - Northern League (NL)
Joliet JackHammers News Release
Joliet IL- The Joliet JackHammers finished the 2009 campaign with an abysmal 33-62 record, which was good for last place and 23.5 games out of first place. Then one magical warm sunny afternoon the JackHammers' luck all changed.
No one could have known what powers two baby goats could bring to the table, but when goats Jack and Hammer first put their tiny little hooves to the beautiful state-of-the-art Silver Cross Field grass- MAGICICAL things took place.
The dynamic duo have brought such luck as cleanup hitter John Nelson launching 27 homers this season, ace pitcher Bear Bay tossing a league leading 116 strikeouts, but more importantly the goats have guided along with incredible first-year JackHammer manager Chad Parker to their first Northern League Playoff birth since 2002.
On Sept. 8, the JackHammers will square off against the Kansas City T-Bones at 6:30 p.m. with the gates opening at 5:30 p.m.
"Bahhhhhhhh bahhhhh bah bah bahhhhhh," said Hammer, the most outspoken of the goats in reference to their arrival at Silver Cross Field and the JackHammers' 2010 success.
The JackHammers recently claimed the first trophy in their history under the close watch of Jack and Hammer when they defeated the Gary SouthShore RailCats 11-0 to claim the first ever I-80 trophy.
With other Chicago teams struggling to get passed their goat curses, this Joliet team continues to thrive with their lovable horned friends.
Loose gravel: Come see the supernatural powers with your own eyes as the JackHammers take on the Kansas City T-Bones in the first round of the Northern League Playoffs at 6:30 p.m. at Silver Cross Field. Tickets are on sale now at $11 for box seats or $6 for lawn seats.
