Goaltender Michael Clements Signs With Lubbock
LUBBOCK, TX: September 20, 2006 - The Central Hockey League's (CHL) Lubbock Cotton Kings added another backstop to the 2006/2007 roster with the addition of goaltender Michael Clements.
"Michael capped off a formidable junior career and is ready to take the next step a start a pro career," said Cotton Kings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Chris Dashney. "We really like what we've heard about his character and ability to stop pucks consistently, which is one of the things we are trying to secure for the upcoming year."
Clements turns pro with the Kings after closing out a junior career last season with the Melville Millionaires of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL). Last season, the 5'11 170-pound goaltender nearly set the SJHL single season GAA mark by posting a 2.30 GAA, which ranked second in the SJHL last season and third all-time. He also posted a 19-10-3 record in 33 games and ranked second in the SJHL in save percentage (92.7) and tied for second in shutouts (3).
The Shellbrook, Saskatchewan native began his junior career in 03/04 with the Nipawin Hawks. Clements, 20, registered a 16-12-2 record along with ranking tied for second in shutouts (3), eighth in GAA. (3.00) and ninth in save percentage with a 90.5% save percentage during the 03/04 campaign. He returned to Nipawin in 04/05 and recorded a 15-14-0 record and ranked ninth in the SJHL in save percentage (91.1%) and tenth in GAA (2.90). Clements overall junior totals combine for a 50-36-5 record in 94 games with a 2.73 GAA and a 91.4 save percentage.
The addition of Clements gives the Kings 17 players announced for the 06/07 season. He joins goaltender Brett Koscielny and Kyle Stanton, defensemen Chris Barth, Stacey Bauman, Jason Beatty, Marc Bianchi, Craig Minard, Troy Neumeier and forwards Bobby Brown, Jimmy Callahan, Philippe Lacasse, Andrew Luciuk, Paul McBrien, Jaydyn Murray, Corey Rutt, Simon Watson and Trevor Weisgerber on the 06/07 roster. With no games of professional experience, Clements qualifies as a developmental player (128 games or less played). Each CHL team must have at least five developmental players on their roster.
