New York Red Bulls News Release

SECAUCUS, NJ (Tuesday, December 27, 2005) - U.S. Men's National Team manager Bruce Arena announced today that he has named MetroStars goalkeeper Zach Wells to the U.S. National Team training camp roster that will begin workouts on Jan. 4 at the National Training Center in Carson, CA. The 30-man roster will be preparing for a series of upcoming friendlies that will take place in January and February.

Wells, selected by the MetroStars in the third round of the 2004 MLS SuperDraft, started 17 games for the club in 2005. He posted a 6-4-7 record for the Metros last season, maintained a 1.24 goals against average (GAA), and tallied four shutouts. The Costa Mesa, CA native was named MLS Player of the Week for week 11 after registering a career-high 14 saves in the MetroStars 0-0 tie with D.C. United on Sunday, June 12 at Giants Stadium. The 14 saves in a game were one shy of the league record that was set by teammate Tony Meola on April 5, 1997, also against D.C. United.

In his rookie season with the Metros, Wells played in two games, posting a 1-1-0 record and a GAA of 2.00.

This will mark Wells' first stint with the full U.S. National Team, and his inclusion means that all 12 MLS teams will have at least one representative in the camp.
