Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT - The Everett Silvertips today announced the signing of 1997-born goaltender Nik Amundrud to a Western Hockey League Educational Contract. A native of Melfort, Saskatchewan, Amundrud joined the Silvertips in Saskatoon today to take part in practice with the club.
Amundrud, who turns 15 on Saturday, was selected by Everett in the third round (#59 overall) of the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft. He currently plays for the Tisdale Trojans of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League, where he has won two of three appearances so far this year. Along with a 2-1 record, Amundrud has posted a 3.33 goals-against average and a .872 saves percentage so far this year.
In his AA bantam season last year, the 6-foot-1, 160-pound netminder went 6-3-2 with a 2.82 GAA for the North East Wolfpack. Amundrud's father, Trevor, is also a former goaltender who played in the SJHL and at Acadia University in Nova Scotia before spending two professional seasons in the WPHL and WCHL.
"From his performance last year and what we saw at both our spring camp and main training camp, we feel that Nik has certainly exhibited the potential to be a goalie of the future for the Everett Silvertips," General Manager Garry Davidson said. "We like his demeanor in the net and that he plays with composure and confidence. He also comes from a pedigree of goaltending, with his dad serving as his teacher and mentor."
The WHL Scholarship encourages graduates to pursue a post-secondary education while also affording them the opportunity to continue playing hockey at an elite level in the Canadian University or College systems. For every season a player spends in the WHL, he receives a full year guaranteed Scholarship to a higher education institution. Each year over 300 WHL graduates attend a university or college on a WHL Scholarship.
