Newark Pilots News Release
Newark- There was threat of rain around the area but it was all for not as it was a pleasant evening at Colburn Park as the Newark Pilots welcomed the Glens Falls Golden Eagles in a non divisional PGCBL contest. Andrew Sanders (Ithaca) was looking for his first win of the season as he matched up verse Williams Durruthy (Florida International).
Sanders and Durruthy were the story of the game through the first five innings. It was a pitchers duel as both starters put up zeros on the scoreboard until the sixth.
It was Glens Falls Golden Eagles who got on the board first when Brandon Purcell (Georgia College) and Richard Gugliemi (Saginaw Valley) lead off with singles in the sixth. That brought up Ryan Hooper (UC Davis) who singled through the left side that allowed Purcell to score. Sanders was close to escaping danger only allowing the one run when he had runners on second and third and two down when Colton Montgomery (Georgia College) chopped a ball down the third baseline that was called fair as it hopped just over the bag allowing two runs to score on the double.
Newark had a quick answer when Zach Wall (Young Harris) launched a solo homerun off Durruthy to left field to lead off the home half of the sixth. The Pilots struck again with two outs. After Tommy Wagner (Cornell) singled to center, he was able to come around to score all the way from first base when Luis Silverio (Palm Beach CC) doubled into the left center gap.
The Golden Eagles were ahead 4-2 when Montgomery struck again, this time in the top of the eighth. It was a no doubt home run off the scoreboard in the left field of Kyle Teachout (Hendrix).
Glens Falls would shut the door and go on to win by a 5-2 final score over the Pilots. The Golden Eagles improves to 16-22, as Newark falls to 21-17 on the season and will travel to Watertown tomorrow night to take on the Rams, before hosting the Rams in a double header at Colburn Park on Wednesday evening.
