Frederick Keys News Release

The Keys got an outstanding start from RHP Sean Gleason and two fourth inning home runs to defeat Kinston 4-2, sweeping away the Indians in its three-game series at Grainger Stadium.

It started with great pitching as Gleason bounced back from a tough start to register his first Carolina League win.

Gleason allowed an infield base hit from leadoff hitter Cord Phelps in the first inning, followed two batters later by a one out double from DH Lonnie Chisenhall. The Indians would score a run in that inning to tie the game at 1-1 but they would register just one more hit off of the dominant Gleason on the night.

He ended up allowing three hits and two runs, just one of which earned in seven innings for the victory.

Frederick would take the lead for good in the fourth inning.

1B Brandon Waring hit his 15th home run of the year, this one to left-center field to lead off the frame.

Two batters later C Caleb Joseph would repeat the feet with a soaring home run off of the second tier of signage in left field. His seventh home run of the season gave Frederick a 3-1 lead.

Narrowly up in the late innings the Keys turned to RHP Pat Egan who threw two more shutout innings for his second save in his short Carolina League tenure.

The Keys pen allowed one earned run in 22 innings on the seven-game trip.

Frederick now heads home to take on the Myrtle Beach Pelicans Friday, July 10th at 7:00 p.m. with the first 1,000 fans receiving a free Keys Baseball Card Set presented by Extra Innings. Fireworks will follow the contest.
