Glasnow Helps Power over Lakewood

(Charleston, WV, June 22, 2013): The West Virginia Power defeated the Lakewood BlueClaws 8-2 Saturday night at Appalachian Power Park. Tyler Glasnow struck out ten BlueClaws to lead the Power to victory.

West Virginia scored the first runs of the game in the third inning. Josh Bell hit a two-RBI single, scoring Kawika Emsley-Pai and Dilson Herrera. The Power added three more runs in the fifth after back-to-back doubles by Barrett Barnes and Dilson Herrera, the latter scoring the former. Jordan Steranka hit an RBI single, scoring Herrera. Max Moroff added the third RBI of the inning, scoring Bell.

Leading 5-0, West Virginia scored three more runs in the seventh. Max Moroff hit his second RBI of the night, plating Steranka. Moroff later scored on a fielder's choice by Emsley-Pai. Raul Fortunato scored West Virginia's final run of the night on a Walker Gourley single.

Glasnow (4-1) picked up the win by tossing five innings of shutout baseball, striking out ten batters. It was the third time this year Glasnow collected at least ten strikeouts, and his second time against the BlueClaws. Yoel Mecias (4-3) took the loss.

The Power and BlueClaws conclude the four-game series Sunday afternoon. Luis Heredia will make his South Atlantic League debut for West Virginia against Lakewood starter Miguel Nunez. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05.
