Lexington Legends News Release
(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) Bubba Starling's eighth-inning double broke up a scoreless game and the Lexington Legends went on to a 2-0 win over the Savannah Sand Gnats in front of 7,246 fans at Whitaker Bank Ballpark Saturday night.
Mark Threlkeld drew a leadoff walk in the eighth. After Fred Ford struck out, Starling's line drive down the left field line scored Threlkeld from first base. Starling then stole third, and after Cam Gallagher walked, Michael Antonio singled, scoring Starling with the Legends' second run.
Aroni Nina (4-3), who pitched the seventh and eighth innings for Lexington, got the win. Kevin Allen pitched the ninth, and after allowing two two-out singles, he struck out Eudy Pina to end the threat. The save was the first of the season for Allen, who was making his third appearance for the Legends since joining the team June 10 from extended spring training.
Legends starter Christian Binford shut out the Sand Gnats for the first six innings. He allowed seven hits, walked two batters and struck out nine. Savannah starter Steven Matz also threw six shutout innings. He allowed two hits, walked three and struck out nine.
The Legends have won two of three games in the series, which concludes Sunday. Game time is 1:35 p.m.
