Gladu Clobbers Homer, Mets Defeat Cardinals 4-3

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The St. Lucie Mets defeated the Palm Beach Cardinals 4-3 on Friday at First Data Field.

Raphael Gladu drove in all four runs for the Mets. He lifted a RBI sac fly in the second inning then pummeled a three-run home run in fourth inning to put the Mets up 4-0.

Local product Jeremy Vasquez went 3 for 4 with a double and two runs in his home debut. Vasquez played his prep baseball at neighboring Martin County High School.

Stephen Villines pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless and hitless relief to earn the win. He struck out two.

Matt Pobereyko recorded five strikeouts over the final two innings to get his sixth save. He gave up a two-out RBI hit to Stefan Troscliar in the ninth but rallied back to strike out Danny Hudzina to strand two base runners and end the game.

Mets starter Blake Taylor allowed two runs in 4.1 innings in a no decision. He blanked the Cardinals over the first four innings.

Wuilmer Becerra went 1 for 4 with a double and run. He caught nine fly outs in right field.

Dylan Carlson went 1 for 5 with a two-run double for Palm Beach.

The Mets (8-13, 35-53) and Cardinals (10-12, 49-37) continue their series at First Data Field on Saturday. First pitch is 6:30 p.m. There will be postgame fireworks!
