Atlanta Gladiators News Release


The Gwinnett Gladiators posted a pair of 1-0 wins last week over the Orlando Solar Bears to remain in first place in the ECHL's South Divison. With a 14-4-1-0 record and 29 points, the Gladiators also hold the top spot overall in the ECHL. The Gladiators were led by goalies Mike Lee and Louis Domingue who each made 22 saves respectively to post the pair of 1-0 wins. Gwinnett has their next two games at home at the Arena at Gwinnett Center before heading back on the road.

Fort Wayne Preview: In the Komets first year in the ECHL, Fort Wayne is currently fourth in the North Division. They have posted a record of 8-7-0-1 for 17 points. This will be the first meeting between the two teams at the Arena at Gwinnett Center this season. The Gladiators and Komets split a pair of game in Fort Wayne back in October when the Gladiators posted a 4-2 win on October 26th but dropped a 1-0 decision to the Komets on October 27th. The Komets are led by Forward Brandon Marino with 23 points in 16 games. Rookie goalie Ken Reiter leads the Komets between the pipes with a save percent of 0.931.

South Carolina Preview: The last meeting between the two teams saw the Gladiators post a 2-1 win over the South Carolina Stingrays on November 4th. The Stingrays are currently last in the South Division with a record of 8-12-0-2. South Carolina won their last game against the Elmira Jackals 5-1 on November 24th.

Thursday November 22: Gwinnett 1, Orlando 0 - W

Rookie goalie Mike Lee earned his second shutout of the season with the Gladiators as he stopped 22 shots to post the win. Defensemen Cody Brookwell scored the game-winning goal 5:31 into the first period. Brookwell got helpers from Tyler Murovich and Kyle Lawson on the play. "ªThe Gwinnett Gladiators outshot the Orlando Solar Bears 26 to 22 on Thursday night in the low scoring affair.

Friday November 23: Gwinnett 1, Orlando 0 - W

The Gladiators earned their second shutout in a row against the Orlando Solar Bears as rookie goalie Louis Domingue backstopped Gwinnett to the win. Domingue stopped 22 shots for his first professional shutout of the season. Rookie Alex Belzile scored the game-winning goal 11:25 into the third on the power play. Tyler Murovich and Ryan Donald each earned an assist on the goal. Belzile notched his first professional goal in just his third game of the year.

News & Notes:

Blanked! Gladiators netminder Mike Lee earned his second shutout of the season as he stopped 22 shots for the Gladiators in a 1-0 win over Orlando on November 22nd. Lee earned his first shutout of the season on October 24th when he made 17 saves at Evansville. Goaltender Louis Domingue earned his first professional shutout on Friday, November 23 as he stopped 22 shots against the Orlando Solar Bears. Domingue has played in four games with Gwinnett this season.

Discipline: Thursday night's game saw just two power play chances total in the game between Orlando and Gwinnett. It was the first time this season that the Gladiators and Gwinnett's opponent each had just one power play chance in a game. The last time an opponent had just one power play chance in a game was March 10, 2012 against Cincinnati. The last time Gwinnett had just one power play chance in a game was December 16, 2011 at South Carolina.

One Goal: The Gladiators posted a 1-0 win over the Orlando Solar Bears Friday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. It was the 13th time this season the Gladiators have skated in a game decided by one goal. The 1-0 win for Gwinnett was the 9th consecutive game decided by one goal for the Gladiators. Gwinnett has posted an 9-3-1-0 record in one-goal games this season.

Low Scoring Affairs: Gwinnett earned two 1-0, back-to-back shutouts this weekend against the Orlando Solar Bears. The last team in the ECHL to have a back-to-back, 1-0 shutout streak was the Las Vegas Wranglers in 2010-11 season. They earned two shutouts on November 24th and 26th .as they blanked Ontario and Stockton. The ECHL has never had a team earn a 1-0 shutout in three consecutive games.

On Thanksgiving: The Gladiators are 4-4-0-2 all time on Thanksgiving Night. The Gladiators moved back to .500 on Thanksgiving after a 1-0 shutout win over the Orlando Solar Bears this season.
