ELMIRA, N.Y. - November 26, 2012 - Last week the Elmira Jackals claimed a pair of wins at home over South Division opponents to keep pace with division-leading Reading. This week Elmira faces its first three-in-three of the season with each game against Atlantic Division competition.

11/30 vs. Wheeling - 7:05 p.m., Home vs. WHL 2-0-0, Away vs. WHL 0-0-0

Friday night the Jackals close out their second six-game home stand of the season by taking on the Wheeling Nailers. Elmira is 2-0-0 on the season against Wheeling after claiming victories in back-to-back games by scores of 4-2 and 5-0 on October 19 and 20. The Jackals enter the week tied for the league lead with eight wins at home and are second in home goals-against average at 1.73. Wheeling, meanwhile, has started out 0-6-1 on the road and is scoring 1.5 goals per away game. Cody Chupp leads the Nailers with five goals while Paul Crowder and Cody Wild are tied for the team lead in points with 11 (3G, 8A each). Patrick Killeen tops Nailers goalies in wins (3) and save percentage (.883) while Scott Darling has the lead in goals-against average (2.74).

The Jackals visit the Titans this weekend for the first of eight games between the teams at the Sun National Bank Center. The season series stands at one win each after the teams split a pair of games at First Arena on November 16 and 17. This weekend the scene shifts to New Jersey's capital where the Titans have gone 4-4-0 this season but have lost three of their last four. The Jackals will try to turn around their fortunes on the road where they have not won since a 4-2 triumph over South Carolina on November 2 (0-4-1). Andy Bombach leads the Titans in goals (7), assists (10), points (17), and +/- (+6). Scott Wedgewood, who the Jackals have not faced yet this season, leads Titans goalies in wins (5), save percentage (.917), and goals-against average (2.50).

Recapping Last Week:

11/21 vs. Greenville: W 2-1

Artem Demkov provided the Jackals with all the offense they needed and Marc Cheverie backstopped the defense to the tune of 39 saves to give Elmira its second win in as many tries against Greenville this season. Demkov's first goal of the game, at 12:59 of the first period, came via the power play and broke an eight-game goal drought for the center. After working out of the slump he found his groove and finished off a 3-on-2 rush at 9:36 of the second to put Elmira ahead 2-0. Dustin Gazley and Andrew Rowe set up the marker. Cheverie was at his busiest in the second period as he faced 20 shots from the Road Warriors. He stopped 19 of them as only Danny Hobbs' one-timer from close range eluded him. In the third the Jackals slowed Greenville's offense down to the tune of only six shots on goal and preserved the one-goal lead for the win.

11/23 vs. South Carolina: W 1-0

Marc Cheverie continued his exemplary work in the crease with 31 saves and his second shutout of the season last Friday against South Carolina. He stopped 10 shots in the first, 11 in the second, and another 10 in the third and helped the Jackals kill off each of South Carolina's seven power plays. The game was a rough one from the onset and the teams combined for 45 penalty minutes which included five major penalties (four fighting majors). Elmira was awarded four power plays in the game, and even though it was unable to cash in on a five-minute power play or a :50 5-on-3, the Jackals did finally convert in the second period. Andrew Rowe took a pass at center, knifed through South Carolina's defense, and beat goalie Ryan Zapolski to the glove side for what proved to be the winning score.

11/24 vs. South Carolina: L 1-5

For only the second time this season the Jackals failed to score first in a home game, and for the second time this season it led to a loss. After a scoreless first period, one in which the Jackals out-shot South Carolina 13-9, the Stingrays cashed in a power play goal from Luka Vidmar at 5:57 of the second period. Just under 10 minutes later Daniel Koger punched a rebound past Marc Cheverie to lift South Carolina ahead by two. It took only 15 seconds for the Jackals to respond to that goal with Kyle Bushee netting his fourth of the season from Darren Kramer and Louie Caporusso. That was the only shot Elmira got past Ryan Zapolski on the night despite a 40-33 shot advantage. The Stingrays added to their lead with third-period goals from Tyler McNeely (2) and Koger to skate away with the win.

Quick Hits:

* With his 31-save shutout on Friday night, Marc Cheverie tied Joel Martin's two shutouts in 2007-08 for the most by an Elmira goaltender in the ECHL. Cheverie would set a new team record and tie his career high from 2010-11 with his next shutout.

* Kyle Bushee's current four-game point streak (2G, 3A) is tied for the longest of his career. He also had points in four straight games (3G, 2A) from March 25 to March 31, 2011. He is currently tied for the eighth-most points among ECHL defensemen with 11 (3G, 8A).

* On Friday the Jackals begin a stretch of five consecutive games against Atlantic Division opponents. They will face Wheeling (1), Trenton (2), and Reading (2) at least once each. The Jackals are 4-1-1- against divisional opponents so far this season.

* When the Jackals face Wheeling on Friday it will mark the quarter pole of the 2012-13 season, and a win would put the Jackals on pace for their second consecutive 40-win season, and their third since joining the ECHL. At the quarter mark last season the Jackals were 9-9-0.

* The Jackals are tied for the second best first-period goal differential in the ECHL at +8. Their seven first period goals allowed are the fewest in the league while their 15 first period goals scored are tied for seventh most.
