Gladiators Gore Lynx, 8-2
February 25, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
Randy Dagenais posted two goals and Mike Stathopoulos had three assists for the Gladiators in an 8-2 win over the Augusta Lynx on Friday night in front of 5,956 at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
Five different Gladiators scored in the first period and Augusta made two netminding changes before the end of the stanza. Kris Goodjohn opened the scoring 1:21 into the first period, deflecting Rick Emmett's shot from the point past Kostur. Jim Jackson scored 2:29 later to chase August goaltender Matus Koster in favor of Jason Saal. Jackson's slap shot from the point found its way through bodies and into the back of the net.
Saal lasted just 3:33 as he was lifted after Chris Durno slipped past the Augusta defense, deked Saal and slid the puck into the open Augusta net. Durno's goal proved to be the game winner.
Kostur didn't fare any better after Jeff Campbell beat him three minutes later at the 9:47 mark of the opening period. Randy Dagenais recorded his first goal of the game on the power play to round out the scoring with less than a minute remaining in the first period.
The Gwinnett scoring onslaught continued into the second period as Peter Flache scored his 6th goal of the year, redirecting Mike Stathopoulos' original shot past Kostur for the goal.
Joe Bourne added the Gladiators second power play goal at 18:38 of the second period, pouncing on a rebound and flipping the puck past Kostur.
Dagenais rounded out the scoring for Gwinnett with his second goal of the night, beating Kostur on a 3-on-2 break with Stathopoulos and Cam Brown.
Stathopoulos finished the night with three assists while Emmett had two helpers in the contest. Mike Vigilatne extended his point-scoring streak to seven games with an assist on the Gladiators fourth goal, moving the puck along to Campbell for the goal.
Adam Berkhoel finished the game with 37 saves for Gwinnett. The Gladiators went 2-for-4 on the power play while extending their penalty killing streak to seven games, shutting down Augusta's second-ranked power play in the win.
