St. Lucie Mets News Release
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - J.T. Ginn dazzled on the mound and Johneshwy Fargas hit another home run on rehab assignment to propel the St. Lucie Mets to a 2-1 win over the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels on Saturday night at Clover Park.
Ginn made the best start of his brief professional career. The 2020 second round pick out of Mississippi State shut out the Mussels over 6.0 innings. He struck out 10, walked just one and gave up four hits.
Ginn (2-1) struck out the side in the first inning. He then fanned two batters in second, third and fourth innings. He threw a career-high 86 pitches.
Fargas (AC joint) played in his third rehab game for St. Lucie. He launched a two-run homer in the first inning for the only runs of the game for the Mets. Fargas has now homered in all three of his rehab games. He played nine innings in center field.
The Mussels got on the board in the seventh inning on a RBI double from Willie Joe Garry, Jr. to cut the Mets lead to 2-1. However, Mets catcher Matt O'Neill caught Garry, Jr. attempting to steal third base for the second out of the inning.
O'Neill also caught Misael Urbina trying to steal third base with one out in the sixth inning.
The Mussels loaded the bases with two outs in the eighth inning against Luis Montas, but Montas ended the threat by striking out Will Holland.
Willy Taveras pitched a perfect ninth inning to close out the win and earn his fourth save.
The Mussels out hit the Mets 7-3. The Mets did not get a hit after Brandon McIlwain's one-out single in the second inning.
The two Mussels pitchers - Bobby Milacki and Osiris German - only faced three batters over the minimum.
Milacki (0-1) took the loss. He gave up three hits and two runs in 5.0 innings. German struck out five in 3.0 hitless innings.
The Mets (31-28) and Mighty Mussels (33-26) conclude their series at Clover Park on Sunday at 12:10 p.m.
