Chicago Stars FC News Release
CHICAGO - The Chicago Red Stars announced today that defender Arin Gilliland will be on loan to Newcastle Jets FC of the Australian W-League during the National Women's Soccer League offseason.
The top pick for Chicago in the 2015 NWSL College Draft, Gilliland immediately made a name for herself in the NWSL, including being the only rookie defender named to the NWSL Second XI. In 2016, Gilliland stepped up her game to a whole new level and was honored as a finalist for Defender of the Year and named to the NWSL Best XI.
After having just finished her first call-up to the U.S. Women's National Team camp, Gilliland has joined Newcastle for her first stint abroad.
Gilliland will return to the Chicago Red Stars prior to the start of the 2017 NWSL season.
Chicago Red Stars, founded in 2007, are one of ten professional teams in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and one of the longest tenured clubs in North American women's soccer. The back-to-back NWSL Playoff club boasts some of the most elite players in the world, including stars from the 2015 Women's World Cup Championship team.
