Gillies Signs and Sessa Released

BRIDGEPORT, CT – The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, have announced the signing of right wing Nathan Gillies to a professional tryout contract and the release of right wing Jason Sessa from one. Gillies comes to the Sound Tigers from the United Hockey League's Elmira Jackals while Sessa returns to that team.

Gillies, 24, has posted 19 goals, 16 assists, 35 points and 103 penalty minutes in 71 UHL games with Elmira this season. After attending training camp with the Sound Tigers in the fall of 2003, the 5'10'' 190-pounder from Cambridge, Ontario split last season, his rookie campaign, between the Jackals and the AHL's Binghamton Senators posting 23 goals, 16 assists, 39 points and 122 penalty minutes in 63 games with Elmira, as well as one assist and 11 penalty minutes in nine games with Binghamton. Gillies played the previous four years, 1999-2003, with Union College of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Sessa signed a PTO with the Sound Tigers on March 15th and posted one assist in seven games with the team. He returns to the Jackals as their leading scorer with a team-best 32 goals, 16 power-play goals, four game-winners and 59 points in 59 UHL games this season.

The Sound Tigers will play four games in five days this week starting with three in four days on the road. All four games will be versus East Division opponents. The Sound Tigers will visit the Norfolk Admirals tomorrow and Friday and the Hershey Bears Saturday before hosting the Senators Sunday. All four games will be web cast live at www.soundtigers.com. The three road games will also be broadcast live on 600 WICC-AM.
