Spokane Shock News Release
Spokane, WA: The arenafootball2 league announced today that DB Sergio Gilliam was named the ADT Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. Gilliam is the first Shock player to win a player of the week award in consecutive weeks since Charles Frederick did it in 2006 (in weeks nine and ten).
Gilliam collected three interceptions on Saturday - one returned for a touchdown - tying the franchise record for the most interceptions in a single game for the second consecutive week. Additionally, Gilliam recorded a fumble recovery, two pass break-ups and four tackles en-route to a 70-12 victory over the Stockton Lightning.
"As a player or a coach, I don't remember anyone putting up the numbers that he has the last two weeks," said Assistant Coach and Defensive Coordinator Alex Sirianni. "To do what he has done in his first two Arena Football games shows just how much potential he has as a player."
After only two weeks of regular-season football, Gilliam has 7.5 total tackles; six interceptions (returned for 86 yards), broke up four passes and one fumble recovery.
The Shock travel this week to Kennewick, WA this week to take on its Western division rival the Tri-Cities Fever in Kennewick on Sunday with a 3 PM kick-off. The game will be televised live on KHQ-TV in Spokane and broadcast on 101.1 FM.
