Gilblair's Four-Hitter Stymies Rox 7-0

Shawn Gilblair pitched the fourth complete game shutout of the season for the Tornadoes in a 7-0 win over the Brockton Rox on Thursday night. The southpaw starter retired 13 batters in a row and 17 of the last 19 Brockton hitters. He finished the evening with five strikeouts and one walk.

The first two Worcester runs came home in the second, both of them unearned. Alex Trezza (who doubled) and Cameron Monger (who reached on Alex Sumner's error) scored, with the former batter plated on the error and the latter coming home on Tony Patane's RBI double.

The Tornadoes sent seven batters to the plate in the fifth inning, scoring three more runs. Ryan Crespi, Abraham Nunez and Chris Clabello all came around, with Colabello and Mark Minicozzi earning RBI's in the process.

Nick Salotti and Crespi added solo homers of their own in the sixth to finish the night's scoring. Salotti's was his league-leading 20th, and Crespi's chased starting pitcher Freddy Flores from the game. Flores (6-6) ended his outing with 5.2 innings pitched,three strikeouts, one walk, eight hits allowed, and seven runs given up (five earned). Brad Hertzler and Jack VanLeur combined for 2.1 frames of scoreless relief in the defeat.

Since July 30, Zach Zuercher (2), Ryan Bicondoa and Gilblair have had complete game shutouts, with those being the only full-nine efforts this season for the club. Zuercher has held opponents scoreless in his last 20.1 innings, while Bicondoa hasn't given up an earned run since July 26. Gilblair has 17 scoreless frames strung together, and has struck out 18 batters in that span.

The Tornadoes head to Montclair, New Jersey for a weekend set with the Jackals. The first pitch of game one is scheduled for 7:05pm on Friday, while game two is at 6:35pm the following day, and the final match of the regular season between the clubs at 2:05pm on Sunday. Tornadoes Broadcaster Nick Gagalis will have the call of all three contests starting with Tornadoes Pre-Game Live 15 minutes before the first pitch.
