Huntsville Havoc News Release
HUNTSVILLE, AL â Huntsville Havoc head coach, John Gibson, announced today that forward Jessi Otis has been waived by the team.
"Jessi was trying to juggle a full-time job and play hockey and it was becoming a distraction for me," Gibson said. "I proposed an idea to him to stay a part of the team on a part-time basis but he decided that he has other opportunities in his professional and personal life that he would like to pursue. We have left the door open, that in an emergency situation, we could see him again.
Otis had played in five games this season and scored one goal and had one assist. He also had seven penalty minutes. He played 54 games for the Huntsville Channel Cats last season and scored 19 goals and had 31 assists. He played in 124 games at the University of Alabama-Huntsville from 1998-2002 and scored 30 goals and had 50 assists.
"I have taken on more responsibility with my job this year so I probably would miss more practices and some games which is not fair to the team," Otis said. "I want to thank Coach Gibson for giving the opportunity to play last season and win a championship. I have a lot of respect for him. He is good coach and has a great program and I wish him the best of luck the rest of this year."
He received his degree in Industrial Engineering from UAH and is currently a Manufacturing Engineer at International Diesel.
The Havoc have signed Jeff Dams to a three-game tryout to fill the roster spot. He played in one game for the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs earlier this season after a stellar career at Holy Cross College. He played in 136 games from 2000-2004 and scored 47 goals and had 76 assists for 123 total points.
HAVOC WELCOMES NEWEST MEMBER
The Huntsville Havoc would like to welcome the newest member to the team. Congratulations to James and Lesli Patterson on the birth of their son, James Colin Patterson on Tuesday. The young forward weighted in at 7 lbs. 15 ozs. and was 21 inches long.
