Vancouver Giants News Release
The Vancouver Giants have hit the 100-point mark for a third straight season as they prepare to enter the final weekend of the WHL season.
On Wednesday, the Giants skated away with a 4-1 win on the road against the Kelowna Rockets. Casey Pierro-Zabotel scored a pair of goals for Vancouver while Tyson Sexsmith collected his 40th win of the year.
Last Friday, the Giants fell 5-2 at home to the Seattle Thunderbirds. Pierro-Zabotel and Chris Cloud scored for the Giants who suffered just their sixth regulation loss at home this season.
On Saturday, Sexsmith turned aside all 23 shots he faced in a 1-0 Vancouver win over the visiting Everett Silvertips. Sexsmith now has a WHL-leading nine shut-outs on the year. He is also tied for 2nd overall in the history of the WHL for shut-outs in a career (20).
The Giants enter the final week of the regular season with an overall record of 46-16-2-6. Vancouver is also 36-0-0-0 when leading a game after two periods of play.
The Giants return to the Pacific Coliseum Friday March 14 to entertain the Prince George Cougars (7:30pm). That will be the Giants annual Fan Appreciation Night, where $40,000 in prizes will be available to be won by fans in attendance.
Saturday March 15, the Giants play their final road game of the season against the Kamloops Blazers (7:00pm). Vancouver will then cap off their 72-game regular season schedule at home Sunday March 16 by hosting the Chilliwack Bruins (5:00pm). That game, the Giants will help celebrate Mr. Hockey Gordie Howe's 80th birthday.
