After playing three games in three nights on the road this past weekend, the Vancouver Giants enter this week in top spot in the Western Hockey League as they prepare to play their next three games on home ice.
Last Friday, the Giants fell 8-2 to the Tri-City Americans in Kennewick, Washington. Michal Repik and Lance Bouma scored in a losing cause on a night which saw the Giants surrender eight goals for the first time since March 2003.
On Saturday, Vancouver rebounded with a 2-1 win in a shoot-out against the Spokane Chiefs. Mario Bliznak scored for the Giants in regulation and in the shoot-out while Tyson Sexsmith made 25 saves in a first star performance. That night, Sexsmith became the Giants all-time leader in regular season appearances by a goalie (82).
Sunday evening, the Giants capped off the weekend with a 3-1 win over the Chiliwack Bruins at Prospera Place. Repik scored twice including the winner while Sexsmith made 19 saves in his WHL-leading 13th win of the year.
The Giants enter the week with a seven point lead atop the B.C. Division with a record of 13-4-1-2. Vancouver will now play three games this week on home ice. Wednesday November 7, the Giants entertain the Prince George Cougars (7:00pm). Then on Saturday November 10, Vancouver will play host to the Red Deer Rebels (7:00pm). The Giants will conclude the weekend on Sunday November 11 as they take on the visiting Kamloops Blazers (5:00pm).
