Vancouver Giants News Release
The Vancouver Giants have taken points in their first five games of the regular season as they prepare to play two games this coming holiday long weekend.
Last Wednesday, the Giants recorded a 2-1 win on the road over the Kelowna Rockets. James Wright netted his second game winning goal of the season in the victory.
On Saturday in front of more than 12,000 fans for the regular season home opener, the Giants shut-out the Rockets 5-0. Evander Kane had two goals while netminder Tyson Sexsmith recorded his 11th career WHL shut-out. The Giants set a club record by allowing just nine shot-on-goal against in the game!
Sunday evening, the Giants fell 3-2 in a shoot-out to the Chilliwack Bruins at Prospera Centre. Spencer Machacek netted his second straight short-handed goal in a game which saw the Giants lose for the first time this season. It was also the first time Vancouver had failed to defeat the Bruins in a regular season meeting.
Now with a record of 4-0-0-1, the Giants are in top spot in the WHL's B.C. Division and Western Conference. They will have the week off for practice in preparation for two games this coming weekend. Friday October 5, the Giants host the Bruins at the Pacific Coliseum (7:30pm). Then on Monday October 8, Vancouver will host the Rockets (2:00pm).
