The Vancouver Giants have progressed on to the second round of the Western Hockey League playoffs. After eliminating the Chilliwack Bruins in the opening round, the Giants now prepare to face the Seattle Thunderbirds.

Last Tuesday at Prospera Centre, the Giants shut-out the Bruins 4-0 in Game 3 of their series. Milan Lucic had a pair of goals while Tyson Sexsmith made 18 saves for his first WHL playoff win and post season shut out.

In Game 4 on Wednesday, the Giants knocked off the Bruins 5-1 in Chilliwack. Kenndal McArdle netted a pair of goals as the Giants have now gone ten straight games on the road in the WHL playoffs without a loss.

On Friday, the Giants wrapped up the series against the Bruins with a 3-1 win. McArdle and Mario Bliznak each had a pair of points for Vancouver in Game 5.

Vancouver will now take on Seattle in the Western Conference Semi-Finals. Dates and start times of the series will be released later this week. The Giants will have home ice advantage in Round 2.

The Thunderbirds eliminated the Tri-City Americans in the opening round of the playoffs in six games. Seattle finished the regular season in third place in the U.S. Division with a record of 37-21-3-11. They went to overtime 22 times during the year, the most of any team in the WHL.

During the regular season, the Giants went 4-1-1-0 against the Thunderbirds. The last time the two teams faced each other was December 13.
