The Vancouver Giants have clinched their second straight B.C. Division title as they enter the final week of the Western Hockey League season.
Last Wednesday, the Giants posted a 4-0 victory on the road against the Portland Winterhawks.Vancouver scored three times on the power play as goaltender Tyson Sexsmith made 17 saves in the win.
On Friday, the Giants knocked off the Chilliwack Bruins 8-0 at the Pacific Coliseum. The line of Michal Repik (2g,2a), Milan Lucic (1g,1a) and Wacey Rabbit (3a) led the scoring for the Giants while Sexsmith made stopped 14 shots for his 9th shut-out of the season.
Saturday night, the Giants picked up a 4-1 win over the Kelowna Rockets at Prospera Place. J.D. Watt scored his team-leading 33rd goal of the season while Rabbit (1g,1a) extended his point scoring streak to ten straight games. Sexsmith posted his 30th victory of the season. In addition to three wins and two shut-outs this week, Sexsmith had a goals against average of 0.67 and a save percentage of 98.1%.
With a record of 43-16-3-7, the Giants have 96 points. They get set to wrap the 2006-07 regular season by playing three games in three nights next weekend. On Friday March 16, the Giants play their final home game before the playoffs as they entertain the Prince George Cougars. The Giants will hold their annual Fan Appreciation Night at the Pacific Coliseum that game (7:30pm). On Saturday March 17, the Giants are on the road to face the Everett Silvertips for the final time this season (7:00pm). Vancouver will conclude their season on Sunday March 18 against the Chilliwack Bruins at Prospera Centre (4:00pm).
