San Jose Giants News Release
Eddy Martinez-Esteve and Jake Wald both homered while Garrett Broshuis tossed six solid innings on the mound to lead the San Jose Giants to a 6-3 victory over the Lake Elsinore Storm on Tuesday evening. In front of 1,202 fans at Municipal Stadium, the Giants took the series-opener from Lake Elsinore and improved to 4-1 on their current seven-game homestand.
Broshuis notched his ninth win of the season after allowing just one run on five hits during his stint on the mound. The right-hander walked one and struck out eight. Broshuis at one point retired ten consecutive Lake Elsinore hitters with the only blemish a solo home run off the bat of Colt Morton in the top of the sixth.
The Giants jumped on the board first with a single run in the bottom of the second inning. With one out, Brian Buscher lined a double into the right field corner. Then with two outs, Travis Ishikawa tripled down the right field line to score Buscher for a 1-0 lead. For Ishikawa, it was his sixth triple of the season.
San Jose added two more runs in the bottom of the third inning as John Bowker reached on an error with two outs. Eddy Martinez-Esteve was up next and the Giants left fielder crushed a home run to deep left center field pushing the lead up to 3-0. It was Martinez-Esteve¹s 14th home run of the year.
The Giants pushed across three more runs in the fourth extending their lead to 6-0. Consecutive singles from Buscher and Todd Jennings got the rally started. After Ishikawa grounded out to move both runners into scoring position, Guillermo Rodriguez scored Buscher with a sacrifice fly to center field. Wald then completed the scoring with a two-run home run to left.
Jason Waddell pitched the seventh inning for San Jose allowing a single run. Justin Hedrick then finished the contest with two innings of work and one run surrendered  Morton¹s second solo homer of the contest. Hedrick struck out three as he finished the game with a punch out of Chris Kolkhorst.
Martinez-Esteve (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) and Buscher (2-for-4, 2B) each finished with multi-hit games at the plate for the Giants.
