(Lancaster, CA) - Stephen Drew, Arirzona's first round pick in the 2004, has been named the California League Batter of the Week for the week of May 25-31. It is the third time Drew has won this weekly award from the league.

The JetHawks shortstop hit in all seven last week to extend his hitting streak to 11 games. He also had a 16-game streak to start the month and hit safely in 33 of 38 games since signing his contract -- 21 of those games have been multi-hit efforts. The 22-year-old shortstop has walked more times (26) than he's struck out (25) and has an astronomical on-base percentage of .486 and slugging percentage of .738. Both marks would lead all of Minor League Baseball if Drew had enough at-bats to qualify.

During a three-game stretch last week, he homered in back-to-back games on July 28-29 and then followed that up by going 4-for-5 with a double, three runs and two RBI the next night.

It is the fourth time a JetHawks player has won this award in 2005. Chris Carter had won the award last week. Matt Chico had been named the Pitcher of the Week last week, and is the only JetHawks pitcher to win this year.
