Vancouver Giants News Release
Vancouver, B.C. - The Vancouver Giants announced on Wednesday that the club has signed centreman Tyler Popowich to a Western Hockey League Player Agreement. The Giants selected Popowich with the third overall pick in last week's WHL Bantam Draft.
"I'm really excited to be a part of the Giants," said Popowich. "I always grew up watching the Giants and going to their games. It was always fun to watch them play, so I'm just glad now that I can be a part of a great organization."
The 15-year-old Surrey native had a strong 2014/15 season as he netted 25 goals and 32 assists in 47 games for the Okanagan Hockey Academy Bantam Prep team. He also impressed at the BC Cup tournament which was held in Salmon Arm last month, scoring six goals and one assist in six games.
"He has really strong hockey sense," said Giants Executive Vice President and General Manager Scott Bonner of Popowich. "He's a good skater for his size, and his playmaking ability is strong. We're excited that Tyler and his family have committed to the Giants and the WHL to further his development as a player."
In 2015/16, Popowich will only be eligible to suit up in five games for the Giants before his Midget season comes to an end.
