Vancouver Giants News Release
Vancouver, B.C. -- The number of players at the Vancouver Giants WHL training camp will drop this week, as several players begin to leave Giants camp to head to NHL camps across North America.
Headlining the list is the highest drafted Giants player ever, Evander Kane, who was taken 4th overall by the Atlanta Thrashers. Also going to NHL camps, Vancouver Canucks 3rd round pick, and Giants defenseman Kevin Connauton, who will be joined at Canucks camp by another Giants defenseman, Nolan Toigo. New Giants captain Lance Bouma will be at camp with the Calgary Flames, while James Wright will skate with the Tampa Bay Lightning, and Craig Cunningham with the New York Rangers. Goaltender Jamie Tucker will attend the training camp of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Giants General Manager Scott Bonner wishes all the players the best as they strive to reach the next level, "Skating with an NHL team can only make you a better player, we wish all of them the best of luck, and hope they enjoy and learn from the experience, and when, or if they return to us, we expect them to be better players because of that experience."
Giants training camp continues with practises and pre season games at the Ladner Leisure Centre. The Alumni Challenge Game, with Giants Alumni players coaching against each other will go Wednesday night, 7:00 P.M. at the Ladner Leisure Centre. Admission is by donation to the CKNW Orphans Fund.
