
Chilliwack Bruins Sign Six

Chilliwack Bruins News Release
The Chilliwack Bruins are pleased to announce the signing of six players to standard WHL education contracts. The signings were announced following the completion of training camp Sunday evening.
Joining the Bruins organization are defenceman Brett Cote and Turner Popoff as well as forwards Brandon Magee, Zane Jones, Matt Bissett and Travis Belhorad. Cote, Popoff, Magee and Jones were all selected by the Bruins in the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft. The Bruins have now signed six of their 2009 draft picks. As 1994 born players they are eligible to play in five regular season games during the upcoming season prior to the completion of their minor hockey seasons. Belhorad, who becomes the first American player to sign with the Bruins was signed as a free agent.
"We're really pleased to have these players join our organization," said Bruins Head Coach and General Manager Marc Habscheid. "They performed well throughout camp and we look forward to seeing them improve throughout the coming season."
The Bruins also announced that defenseman James Bettauer, as well as forwards Matt Ius and Scott MacDonald have been released. "As a group, we felt we needed to move in a different direction," added Habscheid. "By making this decision now, it gives each of them some time to decide what they want to do next."
The Bruins first exhibtion games are scheduled for this weekend when they host the Kelowna Rockets Friday night at Prospera Centre before traveling to Kelowna Saturday night.
