Vancouver Giants News Release
Vancouver B.C. - The Vancouver Giants today released their Tentative 2009-10 Western Hockey League schedule. The 72 game regular season will begin where last season's playoffs ended. The Giants, who lost game 6 of the Western Conference Final in Kelowna, will begin their pursuit of a 5th straight BC Division title with a game against the Rockets in Kelowna on Thursday September 17, 2009.
The Giants will return to Vancouver for their home opener at the Pacific Coliseum on Saturday September 19th, facing the Everett Silvertips.
The Giants home schedule will be interrupted for the 2010 Winter Olympics, forcing them out of the PNE for over two and a half months. The Giants will travel to the Eastern Conference to play games during that stretch, but will also relocate to the Langley Events Centre for 6 games between January 30th and February 14th.
General Manager Scott Bonner says "The Olympics are a once in a lifetime experience, and will be a great event for our city and province, unfortunately for us, it means that the Pacific Coliseum will be unavailable, and we will have to make the best of that situation. We are happy to have a brand new complex in Langley that we can call home for 6 games."
The Giants also finalized their pre season schedule with 6 games on tap, beginning on Friday August 28th. Three homes games are set, with two at the Ladner Leisure Centre, and one at the Pacific Coliseum, road games will be in Kamloops, Kelowna and Chilliwack.
The following is the Vancouver Giants Tentative 2009-10 WHL pre and regular season schedule. All games, date and time are subject to change.
