The San Jose Giants scored the game winning run in the top of the 11th inning and held Modesto scoreless in the bottom of the inning to defeat Modesto Sunday night 2-1. Modesto finished the seven game home stand with a record of 2-5.

Modesto received strong pitching from starter Juan Morillo who pitched seven inning and allowed only one run and recorded eight strikeouts. Morillo was relieved by Alberto Arias who held the Giants scoreless for three innings and handed the ball over to Tomas Santiago (3-8) who gave up a double that scored the eventual winning run in the top of the 11th inning.

Modesto's lone run came across in the bottom of the eighth inning when right fielder Seth Smith hit a single to centerfield that scored catcher Rick Guarno who earlier in the inning lead off with a single to left field. Modesto put two runners on in the bottom of the 11th inning when Joe Gaetti singled and advanced on a fielders choice and a Giants error, however, the rally ended two batters later. Gaetti's single extended his consecutive on-base streak to 45 games.

Modesto travels to Stockton on Monday to take on the Ports in a four game series. Scheduled pitchers are Aaron Marsden for Modesto and Keith Dunn for the Ports. Game time at Banner Island Ballpark is 7:05 p.m.
