
Giants Captain Named WHL Player of the Week

The Vancouver Giants congratulate captain Spencer Machacek on being named the Western Hockey League's Player of the Week for the week of November 5-11. Machacek had seven points and was a +4 in three games to propel the Giants to a 3-0 record last week.
In Wednesday's 7-4 win over the Prince George Cougars, Machacek had a pair of assists in Vancouver's victory. On Saturday, Machacek had two goals including the winner in the Giants 5-1 win over the visiting Red Deer Rebels. The following night, Machacek had two goals and an assist in the Giants 5-2 win against the Kamloops Blazers. For the second straight game, Machacek had the game-winning goal and was named the game's 1st Star.
The 19 year-old from Lethbridge, Alberta is the first Giants player this seaosn to take WHL Player of the Week honours. Currently with 15 goals and nine assists through his first 24 games, Machacek was a 3rd round draft pick of the Atlanta Thrashers last summer.
