Vancouver Giants News Release

The Vancouver Giants have a firm lead atop the Western Hockey League standings as they prepare to play three games in three nights next weekend.

Last Wednesday, the Giants had their highest scoring out-put of the season in a 7-4 win over the visiting Prince George Cougars. Lance Bouma led the way with a hat-trick as the Giants out-shot the Cougars 47-26.

On Saturday, Spencer Machacek and Craig Cunningham each scored a pair in Vancouver's 5-1 victory against the Red Deer Rebels. It was the second time this season the Giants held their opponents to just nine shots on goal!

Sunday evening, the Giants collected their fifth win in a row with a 5-2 decision against the visiting Kamloops Blazers. The line of Machacek (2g,1a), Michal Repik (1g,2a), and Mario Bliznak (3a) led the offense for the Giants while Tyson Sexsmith picked up his WHL-leading 16th win of the season.

Now with a record of 16-3-1-2, the Giants have 35 points to lead both the B.C. Division and Western Conference. The club will have the week off for practices in preparation for games against three of their top rivals. Friday November 16, the Giants host the Chilliwack Bruins (7:30pm). On Saturday November 17, the Giants travel to play the Everett Silvertips (7:05pm). Vancouver will conclude their 3-in-3 weekend by entertaining the Kelowna Rockets (5:00pm).
