Clinton LumberKings News Release

Have you ever wondered who committed the most balks in a Clinton baseball game? Or who has the most hits in Clinton playoff history? So have we! And our curiosity did not stop there. For the first time in franchise history the Clinton LumberKings are offering media guides for sale to all fans for just $6.

As the only remaining charter member in the Midwest League, the LumberKings now boasts the most thorough and comprehensive media guide in the league. For the die hards, there is 113 pages of content that includes a 2017 in review section, all-time series records against the LumberKings Midwest League opponents, a complete club history, ballpark information, and much more.

The 2017 season was the first year of the Clinton LumberKings media guide but in 2018, for the first time, they will be available for fans to purchase at the Lumber yard team store at Ashford University Field or to purchase online.

With the rich history of baseball in Clinton, the 2018 media guide is filled with baseball gems that should satisfy your inner baseball nerdom.

The project to create this extensive of a media guide was a looooooooooong labor of love. Many, many, many hours at local libraries were needed to pull the microfilm necessary to weave together the nearly 65-year history of Midwest League baseball in Clinton.

For any fans who hold the numbers and records of the game in the highest regard this should serve as encyclopedia. Top ten lists of the greatest seasons in Clinton are broken down by statistical categories, lists of the best and worst record to start a season can be found on pages 47 and 48. Single game records, LumberKings clinching dates, team leaders through the years, postseason recaps for each round and year Clinton appeared, Opening Day lineups and results, All-Star game history at Ashford University Field, Clinton All-Star players, and an all-time players list are but a few of the subjects that should make this THE book to settle all LumberKings historical disputes.

While it is my first instinct to take all the credit for this work it would be the farthest thing from the truth. This Media Guide would not have been possible without the help of several people whose love for the Midwest League has preserved the history of its last remaining charter member, the Clinton LumberKings. The Lyons branch library, for their extensive collection of Clinton Herald newspapers on microfilm have preserved the box scores of every game played in franchise history. Brad Seward, for his collection of season game-by-game results and love for all things Clinton baseball was a constant help in team records and record breakdown. David Malamut and his site www.mwlarchives.com. David's passion for the Midwest League was a great benefit for this project and his help and knowledge was vital in completing the history of the franchise's all-star games and players. And lastly the photos used in this media guide, that bring such life to this project, were taken by Paul Gierhart and Jace Lorenzen. The time taken to complete this project was generously granted by General Manager Ted Tornow whose editing was of great help in polishing this media guide. To all those listed, thank you.
