Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

Harlingen, TX - The Edinburg Coyotes (37-42, 11-18) scored early and often to defeated the first half champion Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (39-40, 10-19) 6-2 tonight at Harlingen Field. The WhiteWings, who have now lost three in a row, fall below .500 for the first time this season.

After Maximino de la Cruz (6-6) struck out the first two batters he faced in the first, Amado German launched his fifth home run of the season over the right field wall to make it 1-0 Coyotes.

De la Cruz walked German on four pitches in the third. German stole second and scored on a Nelson Teilon RBI-single to make it 2-0.

In the fourth, Adam Bonner led off with a ground ball in the hole on the right side. John Beal ranged far to his left to snare the ball. He spun and fired wildly to first base, allowing Bonner to go to second base. Two batters later, Angelo Fermin hit an RBI-single to make it 3-0.

The WhiteWings broke through against Isaac Daniels (1-0) in the fourth when Ryan Fox drew a leadoff four-pitch walk and Luany Sanchez followed with an RBI double to make it 3-1.

German gave the Coyotes that run right back in the fifth, though, on the seventh pitch of his leadoff at-bat, with his second solo shot of the game, this one to left field, to make it 4-1.

Bonner led off the sixth with a walk, and one batter later, Carlos Gallardo singled. After a sacrifice bunt left runners at second and third with two outs, Eric Gonzalez hit a grounder in the hole on the right side. Beal dove to his left to grab the ball and his throw ended up getting past first and rolling to the plate, but just barely not in time to prevent the second run from scoring as the Coyotes took at 6-1 lead.

The WhiteWings got another run in the sixth when Miguel Peguero led off with a double and one batter later scored on a Sanchez ground out, making it 6-2.

The WhiteWings and Coyotes play game two of this four-game set tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Kenny Evoniuk (1-3) will face Eric Montoya (5-3)
