San Angelo Colts News Release

SAN ANGELO, Texas - The San Angelo Colts (16-15) never trailed on Friday night and scored nine runs in their last two at-bats en route to a blowout victory, 13-1, over the Amarillo Dillas (17-14) in the opener of a three-game series.

The Colts grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second off Dillas starter Taylor Allen (9-6), as Jason Crosland began the inning with a single. Andres Rodriguez was hit by a pitch with one out, moving Crosland to second base. Crosland then scored on a single by Josh Hollingsworth and Rodriguez later scored on a wild pitch.

The Dillas scored their only run of the night in the third inning to cut the lead to 2-1 when Danny Bravo singled home Ryan Crespi with two outs. San Angelo starter Caleb Rodgers (1-1) allowed just three baserunners the rest of the game until he left after the seventh. The right-hander picked up his first professional win, giving up just one run on six hits with five strikeouts and three walks. Rodgers was making only his second start since spending five weeks on the Inactive list because of shoulder tendonitis.

In the fifth, the Colts took a 4-1 advantage when Crosland hit a bases-loaded, two-out single to bring home two runs. Crosland was 3-for-4 with three RBIs on Friday and has seven hits (a home run, three doubles, three singles) with four RBIs in his last eight at-bats. San Angelo widened the margin in the seventh, scoring five runs, although three were unearned because of three Amarillo errors in the frame. Ronnie Gaines started the rally with a solo homer, his 12th of the year, off reliever Nick Burger, who was charged with all five runs. Three batters later, Crosland doubled home a run to make it 6-1. Madison Edwards, the next batter, popped up to shallow left field but the shortstop Josh Ashton dropped the ball, allowing a run to score. After the next two batters were retired, Wyn Diggs hit a sharp groundball to first that was booted by Rick Owens, bringing home two more runs and putting the Colts ahead 9-1.

The Colts put the icing on the cake in the eighth off former teammate Josh Chitwood. Brett Donahoo, playing against his old team, blasted a solo homer, his second with the Colts and ninth overall, to make it 10-1. Later in the inning, Andres Rodriguez crushed a two-run homer to left, his 11th of the year. Hollingsworth and Diggs then hit back-to-back doubles to make it 13-1.

Allen took the loss, lasting six innings and allowing four runs on six hits with three strikeouts and three walks. Colts right-hander Taylor Fleming pitched two scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts to close out the victory.

The Colts continue this seven-game homestand with game two of this three-game series against Amarillo at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, August 4; the Concho Valley Partnership sponsors a Sports Bottle giveaway for the first 1,000 fans through the gates, which open at 6:05 p.m.
