Bismarck Bobcats News Release
The Bismarck Bobcats have acquired defenseman Alex Gerke from the Tri-City Storm of the United States Hockey League in exchange for future considerations. The Tomah, Wisconsin native is on his way to Bismarck from Kearney, Nebraska and is expected to join the team on the weekend. Gerke is committed to the University of Connecticut (NCAA Division I) for next season.
Gerke had eight points on the season (2 goals, 6 assist) with the Storm and is known for his powerplay skill.
"Alex is extremely gifted and brings an element to our powerplay that we are looking to add more of," said Bobcats Assistant Coach Aaron Kinslow. "He is a solid puck moving defenseman that is steady when handling the puck."
With the addition of Gerke, the Bobcats have eight defensemen on the roster. The acquisition of the newest Bobcat will hopefully provide healthy competition.
"It's important to have competitive practices to become atop team in the league," said Bobcats defenseman Myles Harvey. "We all need to compete for minutes and hopefully we improve as a defensive-core."
The Bobcats will travel on the road for three games in three nights beginning Friday in Albert Lea (7:00pm), Saturday night in Owatonna (7:00pm), and Sunday night in North Iowa (5:00pm). You can listen to all games on Super Talk1270 AM with the "Voice of the Bobcats," Skip Berry beginning 30 minutes before the puck drops for "The Dvorak Motors Pre-Game Show." Also, watch everygame online through the B2 Networks.
