Flint Generals News Release


FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals of the International Hockey League find themselves on the outside looking in to qualify for the Turner Cup Playoffs. The Generals (17-35-2-4, 40 pts.) are in 6th place in the IHL after posting a 1-2-0-0 record last week. Here is a look back at the action.

Thursday, February 26, 2009 - Bloomington 4 @ Flint 5 - The Generals welcomed Team USA 1980 Men's Hockey Goaltender Jim Craig as a special guest before the start of the game against the Prairie Thunder. Flint scored the last 3 goals of the hockey game in the third period to come from behind for the victory. Greg Bullock (19) scored the game winning goal with 5.4 seconds remaining in regulation time. Goaltender Chad Alban stopped 46 of 50 shots. Right wing Jeff Zehr chipped in with 2 assists.

Friday, February 27, 2009 - Flint 2 @ Fort Wayne 9 - This time it was a slow start for the Generals. Flint gave up 3 unanswered 1st period goals. Fort Wayne scored 3 times in each period. Joel Gasper (4) and Greg Bullock (20) accounted for the Flint scoring.

Saturday, February 28, 2009 - Muskegon 4 @ Flint 3 - A very good hockey game from start to finish with some great goaltending by the Generals' Chad Alban and Muskegon's Clayton Pool. Rob Voltera (10), Frank Littlejohn (23) and Maxime Lincourt (16) scored for Flint. Muskegon's Chad Costello scored the game-winning goal with 2:06 to play in regulation time.

Weekly Nominations - Greg Bullock is our nominee for the Pepsi/IHL Player of the Week ending February 28, 2009. In 3 games, Bullock had 2 goals, 3 assists for 5 points. Center Joel Gasper is our nominee for the Aquafina/IHL Player of the Week. Gasper scored two goals in league play this week.

Goaltender Chad Alban is our nominee for the Southern Sports Supply/IHL Goaltender of the Week. Alban stopped 46 of 50 shots in Flint's 5-4 victory over Bloomington on Thursday night.

Monthly Nominations - Center Greg Bullock is our nominee for the Pepsi/IHL Player of the Month for February. Bullock had 3 goals, 9 assists for 12 points in 11 games. Zach Pearson is our nominee for the Aquafina/IHL Rookie of the Month for February. In 11 games. Pearson posted 3 goals, 5 assists for 8 points. Chad Alban is our nominee for the Southern Sports Supply/IHL Goaltender of the Month for February.

Home Cookin' 3 Out of 4 This Week- The Flint Generals prepare for 4 games in 5 nights this week, with 3 games at Perani Arena. The Generals host the Fort Wayne Komets on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. On Friday, March 6th, Flint is on the road against the Kalamazoo Wings at 7:30 p.m.

The Generals will host back to back games on Saturday, March 7th against the Bloomington Prairie Thunder at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday afternoon, March 8th, the Fort Wayne Komets are back for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
