
Two Icehawks Receive Weekly And Monthly League Honors

PORT HURON, MI - Two Port Huron Icehawks have received multiple honors from the International Hockey League. Derek Patrosso was named Rookie of the Week for the week ending Sunday, March 1 and Rookie of the Month for February, and Larry Sterling was selected as Goaltender of the Week and Goaltender of the Month.
Patrosso had an outstanding month, amassing 13 points (7g, 9a) in 11 games and registering a +9 rating. He had four multi-point games during February.
Patrosso notched goals in all three games the Icehawks played last week to end the month on a three game goal streak. On Wednesday, he netted two goals, including the game winner, to lead the Icehawks to a 3-2 win over Kalamazoo.
The 24-year old native of Northville, Michigan leads all Icehawks rookies in goals (16), assists (19) and points (35). He is tied for the lead among IHL rookies in game winning goals (3) and is tied for third among league rookies in goals scored (16). The honors are his third and fourth this season. He was also named Rookie of the Week in weeks 11 and 18.
Sterling earns monthly honors for the second consecutive month. He finished February with a 4-1-1-0 record, 133 total saves and a .930 save percentage. He gave up just one goal in three of his six starts, allowing a total of ten goals in the month and recording a goals against average of 1.65. He ended the month riding a five game unbeaten streak.
The 26-year old native of Lake Orion, Michigan currently leads the league in wins (22) and minutes played (2247:0) and is ranked second in goals against average (2.78). Sterling has now received league honors five times this season. He was also named Goaltender of the Week in weeks 12 and 18 and Goalie of the Month in January.
The Icehawks play four games next week as they continue their run toward the Turner Cup Playoffs. They visit Kalamazoo on Wednesday, host the Bloomington PrairieThunder on Friday, travel to Muskegon on Saturday and face a rematch with Kalamazoo at home on Sunday.
