IHL Unveils Weekly Honors For Week Twenty

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Muskegon right wing Luke Stauffacher has been named the Pepsi IHL Player of the Week, Port Huron forward Derek Patrosso has been named the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Week and Port Huron goaltender Larry Sterling has been named the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, March 1st, 2009.

Stauffacher completed the week with seven points (4g, 3a) and a plus-1 rating in four games played. He recorded three of his four goals Sunday, netting his league-leading fourth hat trick of the season in the 5-3 win over Kalamazoo. His other goal came in a 4-3 win in Flint on Saturday, netting his fifth power play goal of the season. In his second weekly honor of the season, the 28-year-old Madison, Wisconsin native has recorded 57 points (29g, 28a) so far this season, which ranks him third on the Lumberjacks roster in scoring.

Other players nominated for the Pepsi IHL Player of the Week include: Bloomington center Bill Bagron, Flint center Greg Bullock, Fort Wayne center Mathieu Curadeau, Kalamazoo right wing Justin Cross and Port Huron left wing Tab Lardner.

Patrosso capped off the week scoring four goals and dished out one assist in three games played by the Icehawks. He began the week notching in two goals in the Icehawks 10:30 a.m. start in Kalamazoo Wednesday. He continued his scoring ways into the weekend, notching in a goal a night. The 24-year-old Northville, Michigan native is tied for the league lead among IHL rookies in game-winning goals with three and is tied for third among IHL rookies in goals scored with 16. This is Patrosso's third time earning the rookie of the week honor.

Other players nominated for the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Week include: Bloomington center Bill Bagron, Flint center Joel Gasper, Fort Wayne center Rick Varone, Kalamazoo forward Rick Cleaver and Muskegon left wing Chad Costello.

Sterling finished the week with a 2-0-0-0 record, earning wins in both of his starts last week. He gave up just two goals against Wednesday morning in Kalamazoo. Saturday, he allowed only one goal against, turning aside 23 of 24 shots he faced from Bloomington. Sterling finished the week with a 1.50 goals against average and a .931 save percentage. It is the third weekly honor for the 26-year-old native of Lake Orion, Michigan.

Other players nominated for the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week include: Bloomington's Jason Wolfe, Flint's Chad Alban, Fort Wayne's Nick Boucher, Kalamazoo's Jason Tapp and Muskegon's Clayton Pool.
