March 8, 2010 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2) - Flint Generals News Release

GAME DATE CHANGE: The Generals vs. PrairieThunder game that had been scheduled for Feb. 16th will be played this Sunday, March 14th at 4:00PM at Perani Arena.

ON THE RECORD: In three games during the course of week 21, the Generals earned a record of 2-1-0-0 with both wins coming against the 3rd placed Fort Wayne Komets.

BRIGHTON CONNECTION: With defenseman Steve Silver, left wing Rick Smith, and the IHL Commissioner Dennis Hextall from Brighton (about 40 minutes down the road), the next City Pride Night at Perani Arena honors this connection with the Generals making this Friday, March 12th Brighton vs. Howell Pride Night. The Generals welcome everyone who lives/works/goes to school in or just visits the Brighton and Howell communities to Perani to show their support for the Generals and pride in their city. Each side of the arena decorated with their school colors for the fun night, and there are great group prices for any group of 10 or more. Group must be arranged at least the day before the game in order to get special group pricing. Also, there are special group prices for any business or group that would like to host a table on the concourse during this game!

SOLID PERFORMANCE: Sergei Zvyagin may have only played in one game this week for the Generals but he certainly made a statement. In Sunday's game against the Fort Wayne Komets, Zvyagin managed to stop 54 of 56 shots faced for a.964 save percentage. The Komets shelled the netminder with the most shots faced by any Generals' goalie all season, the previous season high (for the team) was 51 by the Dayton Gems. His 54 saves were the most by any IHL goaltender this season.

CLOSING IN?: With their win Sunday in Fort Wayne, Flint has taken control of 6th place in the IHL standings. For the past couple of weeks the Generals have been tied for 6th with the Dayton Gems. Flint is currently 4 points behind 5th place Quad City and 7 points behind Bloomington who holds the 4th and final playoff spot.


~ John Ronan has the current longest point streak with 10 points in 6 games. Bryan Smolinski has the 4th longest active streak with 8 points in 5 games

~ John Ronan has taken the lead in team scoring for the Generals with 48 points

~ Last week (week twenty) was the first time in three weeks the Generals were not represented in the weekly awards (Mori had won Rookie of the Week for week 17, Rob Nolan won Goalie of the Week for week 18 and Mori won Rookie of the Week again for week 19)

~ Brandon Gentile leads Generals defensemen in scoring with 23 points (8 goals and 15 assists). 5 of his 8 goals have come on the power play

~John Mori leads the league in shorthanded goals with 5

~The Generals are with Quad City for last in total GF with 162

FACEBOOK FRIDAYS: Friday, Mar. 12th's game against the Dayton Gems marks the return of Facebook Fridays! Followers of the Flint Generals Group on Facebook will be eligible for up to three (3) $5 END ZONE tickets for that Friday game. All fans have to do is become a follower of the Generals Group on Facebook- if they are not already- and print off the "Facebook Friday" photo and bring it with them to the Perani Arena Ticket Office when they purchase their tickets.

THE GENERALS WANT YOU: The Generals are currently accepting applications for volunteer ushers for all Generals home games. Ushers will receive free parking and two tickets for the game. THIS WEEK ON THE ICE: The Gens pick back up Wednesday in Dayton when they pay a visit to the Gems. The Generals took sole possession of 6th place with their victory over the Komets this past Sunday so they should expect a hungry Gems squad.

Friday the 12th they meet with Dayton again when they host the Gems at Perani Arena. The Generals have won their past two against the Gems

Sunday Bloomington visits Perani for the rescheduled February 16th game.
