IHL Awards Weekly Honors For Week Twenty-One

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Port Huron center Nick Lindberg has been named the IHL Player of the Week, Port Huron left wing Mickael Bedard has been named the IHL Rookie of the Week and Flint goaltender Sergei Zvyagin has been named the IHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, March 7th, 2010.

Lindberg finished the week scoring three goals and four assists in three games. He scored in all three games, extending his point streak to five games. Lindberg had four points against the first-place Lumberjacks Friday night, including the game-winning goal, marking his second four-point night of the season. He added a goal and another assist the following night against the 'Jacks, helping push the Icehawks to a two-game sweep of Muskegon. The 29-year-old Stockholm, Sweden native is currently third on the Icehawks roster in scoring with 51 points (12 goals, 39 assists), which also ranks him 11th among the IHL leaders.

 

Other players nominated for the IHL Player of the Week include: Bloomington defenseman Jason Lepine, Dayton defenseman Greg Labenski, Flint forward John Ronan, Fort Wayne left wing P.C. Drouin, Muskegon right wing Robin Bouchard and Quad City defenseman Tyler Kindle.

 

Bedard wrapped up the week scoring three goals and dishing out four assists in three games played. After scoring one goal Wednesday in the 4-3 win over the Generals, he exploded for six points against the first-place Lumberjacks in two games, including adding four assists in Saturday's 5-4 win. It was his second four point night of his young career this season. Bedard has been the most productive Icehawk against the Lumberjacks this season, scoring five goals and 10 assists in 12 games against Muskegon. The 22-year-old Montreal, Quebec native has led all IHL rookies in scoring all season, sitting on top with 31 goals and 31 assists for 62 points.

 

Other players nominated for the IHL Rookie of the Week include: Bloomington center Matt McIlvane, Dayton forward Justin McCutcheon, Flint forward John Mori, Fort Wayne defenseman Frankie DeAngelis, Muskegon left wing Matt Robertson and Quad City center Justin White.

 

Zvyagin finished his first full week as a member of the Generals winning his only game played. He made a league-high 54 saves against Fort Wayne Sunday, after being peppered with a league-high 56 shots on goal. He shut down the Komets in the third period after Flint took the lead, stopping all 18 shots he faced in the final stanza to hold on to the 3-2 win over the Komets. The 39-year-old Moscow, Russia native has a .919 save percentage and a 3.78 goal against average in two appearances since joining the Generals on February 27th.

 

Other goaltenders nominated for the IHL Goaltender of the Week include: Bloomington's Sebastian Dahm, Dayton Derek MacIntyre, Fort Wayne's Tim Haun, Muskegon's Matt Lundin, Port Huron's Adam Russo and Quad City's Jerad Kaufmann.
