Chattanooga Lookouts News Release

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Jackson starting pitcher Brandon Maurer pitched eight quality innings, while his offense produced seven runs on 15 hits en route to a 7-4 win over the Lookouts in Wednesday afternoon action at AT&T Field.

Lookouts entered the scoreboard in the first inning. Nick Buss led off the bottom of the first with a double and scampered to third on a subsequent sacrifice bunt by Luis Nunez. Blake Smith followed with a single to give the Lookouts an early 1-0 lead.

Jesus Sucre hit a grand slam over the left field wall in the fourth to give the Generals the lead.

Sucre struck again with an RBI single in the fifth to augment Jackson's lead, 5-1.

The Generals offense kept rolling and scored a run in the seventh on a Leury Bonilla RBI single and another run in the eighth on a solo shot from Denny Almonte.

After a rather long scoring drought, the Lookouts scored again in the eighth inning. Jake Lemmerman and Matt Wallach led off with singles to put runners on the corners, and Nick Buss grounded out to first baseman Eric Campbell, plating Lemmerman in the process.

Despite facing a 7-2 deficit, the Lookouts kept plugging away in the bottom of the ninth. J.T. Wise led off the rally with a walk and advanced to third on a subsequent Pedro Baez double. Travis Denker was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. Kyle Russell then battled pitcher Steven Hensley before finally winning and drawing a run-resulting walk. With the bases still loaded and no outs, Lemmerman grounded out into a double play to damper the rally. Wallach then hit a ball to deep left field, but left fielder Kalian Sims was able to track down the ball at the warning track to end the game.

Brandon Maurer (4-1) earned the win for the Generals, pitching eight solid innings and yielding just two runs on seven hits and two walks. He struck out seven in the winning effort.

The Lookouts will hit the road to play 10 games in 11 games against the Montgomery Biscuits and Jackson Generals before the Southern League All-Star break. The Lookouts will be back at AT&T Field on June 21st to play a five-game series against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. Tickets for these games or any other Lookouts home game can be purchased at the Lookouts Box Office at AT&T Field, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling (423) 267-4849.
