
Maurer Plus Sams' Grand Salami Give Generals Win

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. (JUNE 6, 2012) - The Generals won their fourth game in Chattanooga out of five Wednesday morning over the Lookouts, 7-4. Jackson, now 37-23 is 14-games above .500 for the first time and has a 3 1/2 game lead in the division. The magic number to win the division is now just 8 as the Generals have now won 9 of their last 11 games.. Jackson picked up 15 hits on Wednesday.
Brandon Maurer (5-1) earned his second straight win and tossed a season high and Generals high 8.0 innings. Maurer allowed 2 runs on 7 hits, walking 2 and striking out 7 batters.
Kalian Sams provided offense and blasted the first grand slam of the year for Jackson in the top of the fourth and the Generals took the lead 4-1..
Jesus Sucre picked up his second hit of the game in the fifth inning and singled home Denny Almonte to increase the advantage to 5-1.
Leury Bonilla got in on the hit parade in the seventh inning with a single scoring Sams to push the lead to 6-1. Denny Almonte's third hit of the game in the eighth was a solo home run to center, his 9th of the season and Jackson led 7-1.
The Lookouts pushed a run across in the eighth against Maurer, and two in the ninth against reliever Steven Hensley, but eventually fell, 7-4.
Denny Almonte led the way going 3-for-4 with a home run, RBI and 2 runs. Nick Franklin, Jesus Sucre, Eric Campbell and Leury Bonilla each recorded 2 hits.
The Generals continue their 10-game road trip on Thursday night in Jacksonville, FL against the Suns. The first meeting between the two teams this season will be at 6:05 p.m. CT. RHP Taijuan Walker (4-1, 2.68) will take the mound for Jackson against RHP Omar Poveda (4-2, 4.76) for Chattanooga.
