Biscuits Struggle in Clutch in 3-2 Loss

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- The Biscuits (31-29) left the winning run on base in the 9th in a game in which they went 1-16 with runners in scoring position en route to a 3-2 loss to the Tennessee Smokies (27-33) Wednesday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

Montgomery loaded the bases in the ninth inning with one out. Tyler Bortnick grounded into a fielder's choice to score one run. With runners on first and second, Frank Batista (8) got Michael Sheridan to fly out to center to end the game to earn his eighth save of the year.

The Biscuits left a season-high 14 runners on base and walked nine Smokies after walking a season-high ten batters on Tuesday night. There were 18 walks between the two teams.

The Smokies scored single runs in the second, third and seventh innings. The Biscuits scored their first run in the bottom of the seventh but followed with back-to-back strikeouts with the bases loaded.

Alex Colome (2-2) gave up two runs on five hits in 3.2 innings for his second loss of the season. Trey McNutt (4-4) went 5.2 shutout innings allowing three hits.

Bortnick and Omar Luna both chipped in two hits.

The Biscuits will open a five-game series with the Chattanooga Lookouts Thursday night at 7:05. LHP Kyle Lobstein will start for Montgomery while Chattanooga will start LHP Aaron Miller.
