Victoria Generals News Release

The Victoria Generals defeated the McKinney Marshals 8-6 on Wednesday night at Riverside Stadium in the first game of a two game series. The Generals displayed some impressive power as seven of their eight runs were scored off of home runs on the night.

The Generals first home run of the night was a two-run blast off of the bat of Chad Kruse, his second of the season, in the bottom of the first inning.

The Marshals got a run back in the second inning on a throwing error by Generals catcher Blue Hybner. Dillon Newman made the start for the Generals on the mound and allowed just three hits in three innings of work with six strikeouts.

The Generals made it a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on a two-run home run by Hybner, his third of the season.

Bryce Zak relieved Newman and ran into trouble in the top of the fifth as the Marshals were able to score five runs in the frame to take a 6-4 lead.

The Generals responded in the seventh inning as Eric Weiss drilled a three-run bomb to straight away left-field to put the Generals back on top 7-6. Weiss now leads the team with five home runs on the season.

Trace Knoblauch added an RBI single in the seventh to score Patrick Duncan and give the Generals an extra insurance run.

Daniel Tunchez picked up the win for the Generals, tossing three innings of hitless and scoreless relief with three strikeouts.

Tunchez walked the first batter he faced in the ninth inning, prompting Generals head coach Chris Clemons to call upon closer Dallas Ponder. Ponder struck out the first two batters he faced before forcing a ground out to end the game. It was Ponder's fifth save of the season.

With the win, the Generals improve to 32-22 and the Marshals fall to 15-38.

The two teams will meet again on Thursday night for game two of the series. It will be the final Thirsty Thursday of the season for the Generals as draft beer will be $1 all game long on the party deck.
