LAST GAME: Birmingham, Ala. - The Jackson Generals, the Double-A affiliate of Major League Baseball's Arizona Diamondbacks, won their fourth straight game on Saturday night, taking down the Birmingham Barons 5-1 at Regions Field. The victory boosts Jackson (8-6) two games over .500 for the first time this season, and it snapped a four-game win streak for Birmingham (8-8). Jazz Chisholm homered twice for the victors, and Riley Smith (1-2, 5.28 ERA) notched his first quality start. FULL RECAP: JacksonGeneralsBaseball.com

TODAY'S PITCHING MATCHUP: Right-hander Riley Smith is still looking for his first Double-A win after giving up eight runs over his first 9.1 IP this season. For Birmingham, Kodi Medeiros is in his second Southern League season, pitching last year for both Biloxi and Birmingham with a 7-7 record and a 3.60 ERA. He lasted only 3.0 IP in his first appearance, allowing 3 earned runs.

OFFENSE BREWING: After scoring just 26 runs over their first ten games, the Generals are on a four-game win streak (April 16-20) during which they've put 37 runs. While the overall hitting numbers are still on the rise, Pavin Smith and Jazz Chisholm have ramped up their power numbers significantly. Chisholm and Smith have combined for seven homers this year, the highest combined mark for SL teammates. Smith's 10 RBI are also 3 shy of the league leader. Andy Young's .429 on-base percentage as a leadoff man has been useful, too.

OUR SECOND DEBUT: 2017 Generals pitcher Taylor Clarke became the second former General to make his Major League debut in 2019, pitching three scoreless innings for the D-backs yesterday in a 6-0 win over the Cubs. Clarke got the save.
