Oshawa Generals News Release
Sudbury, Ontario - The Oshawa Generals now boast a .500 record two games into the new season, falling 4-2 to the Sudbury Wolves on the road Friday night in a closely contested affair.
Generals captain Boone Jenner extended his scoring streak to two games when he beat Sudbury goalie Joel Vienneau 6:25 into the first period, with assists going to Tyler Biggs and Michael Dal Colle. The Sudbury Wolves would fire back late with a Dominik Kubalik goal at the 16 minute mark of the first period.
Sudbury would strike early in the second when Kubalik notched his second goal of the game two minutes in. Scott Sabourin would answer for Oshawa on the power play, beating Vienneau at the halfway point of the period to tie things up. Only two minutes later Wolves winger Nathan Pancel would score the eventual game winning goal, putting the puck past Daniel Altshuller at the 11:16 mark of the middle frame.
Oshawa could not muster a comeback in this one, as Sudbury would notch an empty net goal with only 30 seconds remaining in a tense third period to seal the Generals fate. Altshuller would turn away 24 of 27 shots in a losing effort for the Generals, while Wolves net minder Joel Vienneau stopped 28 of 30 to pick up the win in Sudbury's home opener.
The Generals went 1-for-5 on the man advantage on Friday night while Sudbury went 0-for-4 in a game that saw each team spend their fair share of time in the penalty box. While it is still very early in the season, the Generals penalty kill has been strong thus far.
The team will get a week off before lacing up their skates for a rematch against the Peteborough Petes next Friday in the home opener. Puck drops at 7:35pm ET at the General Motors Center.
